The History of Highlands Falls CC

Highlands Falls Country Club, originally named Sky Lake Golf Estates, began as a nine-hole public golf course.  It got its start in the late 1950's as the vision of two Florida real estate developers.  Their dream of a high-elevation golf community became a reality on June 20, 1963 when nine-holes were opened to the public for play with greens fees of $5.00.  The golf course was later expanded to include twelve-holes and in 1967, it was sold to golf pro Bill Meyers to complete an 18-hole golf course.  Myers redesigned the course somewhat but interest in a second home in the mountains was not popular at that time, and in 1972, Meyers sold Highlands Falls golf course to W. Edward Callaham of Naples, Florida.

Callaham saw the future value of golf course developments in the Highlands area and organized a group of businessmen and investors to develop Sky Lake Golf Estates.  The name was subsequently changed to Highlands Falls and the golf course was redesigned to include 18-holes and a new 6,000 sq. ft. clubhouse.

Finally in 1979, Joe Lee, a golf course architect, was brought in to re-design the golf course but construction did not actually begin on the new Joe Lee design until 1983.  Since that time, Highlands Falls golf course has been featured in Golf Digest, Carolina Green, and various other publications professing the beauty and serenity that is Highlands Falls.
